Who is it a good fit for?
- Homes where the cylinder needs to be far from the heat pump — up to 20m refrigerant pipe run gives real flexibility on cylinder placement.
- Homes with a wood fire or wet-back system — the 300L + Wetback and 400L variants can accept input from solid fuel heating, reducing reliance on the heat pump in winter.

Review
The Calitec KP-50 range offers the most configuration flexibility of any heat pump water heater in our database. The base system is a refrigerant-cycling split: the outdoor unit contains the heat pump and the heat exchanger coil is built directly into the Calitec cylinder, eliminating the need for a water-to-refrigerant heat exchanger. The cylinder can be placed indoors or outdoors (up to 20m pipe run), and the 300L Outdoor variant allows both units fully outside — useful when internal space is limited. The 300L + Wetback and 400L + Wetback & Hydronic variants accept input from a wood fire or wet-back system, making this the only NZ heat pump water heater that can integrate with both solar PV and solid fuel heating.
COP of 4.0 at 15°C is honest and competitive for a split system using R32. The 20-year tank warranty matches the WH-70 and remains the strongest in the NZ market. Note: outdoor unit dimensions are pending verification with Calitec. Installed pricing is not yet confirmed — verify directly before quoting.
