What homeowners tell us
Real stories from New Zealand households who have made the switch.

“I needed the cupboard space for a MVHR system. I decided after a seminar I organised where we had five HWHP suppliers attend. Just getting used to it. I think I would recommend - just need to trial it for a bit. ”
Damien, St Albans installed an Emerald
“I have modelled the ongoing cost to operate the hot water heat pump and it is expected to provide around a $900 saving per year when compared to the cost of reticulated LPG in Christchurch. This greatly improves our household cashflow with two young kids. A HWHP is by far the most efficient and effective way to heat hot water for your home.”
Michael, Burnside installed an Emerald“We wanted to get off gas and needed to do so in a managed way - before our Infinity system broke down. We are very happy with the results. Energy bills are down. Would definitely recommend this system. ”
Paul, Lower Hutt installed a Rinnai
“I'd been wanting to get off gas forever and this was the last piece in my puzzle. I have a guilt free shower now - my carbon emissions are so much less. I love this smart NZ design for repairability, efficiency through top down heating - you can't hear it from inside.”
Carolyn, Mt Albert installed a Rinnai
“Old water system wasn't sufficient for our needs, attracted by lower energy use of hot water heat pump systems. This was recommended our plumber - it's what they are installing at their own home. Going really well, noticeable drop in our energy use, good pressure, and never run short of hot water needs. It's very quiet, haven't noticed any noise from it.”
Rob, Westmere installed a Rinnai“One of the reasons we purchased this particular heat pump hot water cylinder was that it is very quiet. We are saving between $50-60 per month on our energy use, as a household of 5. The only downside coming from gas is that we have to manage usage, even though I installed a 330l cylinder. Would recommend, for energy efficiency and added space inside.”
Matthew, Diamond Harbour, Canterbury installed a Haier“Doing major house renovations, old gas hot water cylinder was end of life and in the wrong place. Central heating installer recommended Aquacore. We installed a Rheem 250L tank. It can be controlled using the same app on the phone as the space heating, and on the Home Assistant. Going well. We always have hot water when we want. I can change when the water is heated (daytime in summer, when we have excess solar; night time in winter to use off-peak tariff).”
Jerry, Ngaio, Wellington installed a Black Diamond Technologies (Mitsubishi Electric)
“Replaced old & broke HWHP with the Ecospring. Could be better designed. Would recommend, good heat - no issue to date.”
A homeowner in Mount Roskill installed an Ecospring
“We're very pleased with the heat pump. When our gas califont reached the end of its life, we saw it as the perfect opportunity to make the switch to electric. Continuing to pay for both gas and electricity connections didn't make sense. We haven't quite seen the cost savings we initially hoped for, electricity prices are currently high, even so, we're happy with the decision to switch to a more efficient electric system.”
Colinda, Grey Lynn installed a Rheem
“It's basically halved our hot water power usage! The noise is waaay less than I expected. It's been EPIC. We were recommended Mainly Gas & Plumbing - they were an incredibly lovely team and we loved the more sustainable CO2.”
Kate, Red Beach installed a Reclaim Energy“I had committed to making the switch when the old cylinder died, so I was prepared. I also wanted to not use a cylinder in my roof anymore so it cost extra for plumbing. The control panel has a blinking light and I have no idea why! It’s annoying. Other than that it’s awesome. Yes! Cheaper power bills, reliable plentiful hot water, total win.”
Alison, Miramar installed a Reclaim Energy“I have never been completely happy with the LPG Cylinders. The cost of these keeps increasing. I am happy with the heat pump hot water, the water temperature is not quite as hot as the gas, but it is not a problem. I would definitely recommend the system.”
Tania, Feilding installed an AHI Carrier
“It was time for a new kitchen and appliances - getting off gas was also a priority. Great - love the safety features, and especially the boost button for boiling the kettle.”
