Who is it a good fit for?
- Larger households wanting maximum capacity (315L) — Duplex stainless steel tank with ~570L output at 40°C suits families of 4–6.
- Smaller households wanting premium quality (250L) — same COP 6.15 performance in a compact tank for 2–4 people.
- Cold climate homes (Otago, Canterbury, alpine) — operates down to −10°C without a backup element, where R290 units need element assist below −5°C to −7°C.
- Noise-sensitive locations — 38 dB is the quietest unit in the database, well suited to close-neighbour townhouse installations.
- Eco-conscious buyers wanting the lowest possible GWP — CO₂ refrigerant (GWP 1) is non-flammable and non-toxic.
- Smart home enthusiasts — AirBase app with NZ-exclusive energy monitoring, Auto Adaptive Logic, and full remote control.
- Buyers who value brand pedigree and NZ service — global HVAC leader with 20+ years of NZ hot water expertise and nationwide specialist installer network.
- Those wanting the best warranty — 7-year full parts and labour on both heat pump and tank is among the best in the market.
Review
Performance & Efficiency:
Daikin’s new CO₂ hot water heat pump delivers a rated COP of 6.15. While this is the highest of any unit in our database it reflects testing at 33°C ambient (23.5°C dew point) with water heated from 21°C to 63°C, which is a warm-condition test. Real-world NZ winter performance will be lower.
Nominal thermal output is 5.11 kW with a maximum of 6.0 kW, driven by Daikin’s own swing compressor at just 0.83 kW input power.
Features:
- CO₂ technology: inherently performs well in cooler climates, and the system operates efficiently down to −10°C — covering even the coldest NZ conditions without needing a backup electric element.
- Split system design: pairs a compact outdoor heat pump unit with an indoor or outdoor Duplex 2205 stainless steel tank — available in 250L (2–4 people) or 315L (4–6 people).
- Stainless steel tank: The tank’s 1.2mm Duplex stainless steel construction is a significant upgrade over standard enamel, offering superior corrosion resistance and longevity. The outdoor unit features a Blue Fin anti-corrosion condenser coating for coastal and harsh environments.
- Quiet operation: at 38 dB, the outdoor unit is amoung the quietest heat pumps in our entire database.
- The standout smart feature is Auto Adaptive Logic: a self-learning system that monitors your household’s hot water usage patterns and automatically adjusts heated water volume to match. This reduces unnecessary heating cycles and energy waste without any user input.
- Heat Boost mode: provides rapid recovery for back-to-back showers by running an additional heat cycle at full power before automatically reverting to efficient operation. Other modes include Vacation (stops heating, prevents freezing and bacteria growth while you’re away), a programmable schedule timer for solar PV or off-peak alignment, and a child lock for family safety.
- Optional AirBase Wi-Fi kit (BRP15B61WP): connects to Daikin’s smart control platform for remote monitoring and control via smartphone. The AirBase app includes an energy monitoring feature that is exclusive to New Zealand — allowing homeowners to track usage and savings. An integrated LCD display on the unit itself provides direct control without the app.
Supply & Service Network:
Though relatively new to the hot water heat pump market in New Zealand Daikin is a global HVAC leader with over 20 years of heat pump experience here. All systems are installed exclusively by approved Daikin Hot Water Specialists (licensed NZ plumbers), and an optional Quickie Kit (NZQIK-HEATPUMP-DAI) with pre-configured valves and fittings is available for faster, tidier installation.
