Who is it a good fit for?

  • Efficiency: Anyone who wants a high rated efficiency (COP 5.7) with a low-GWP refrigerant (R290, GWP 3).
  • Households of up to 4 people. The 290 L tank delivers 300 L in the first hour.
  • Solar homes. Wi-Fi scheduling lets you heat water when your panels are producing.

Review

Performance and efficiency

The Econova All-In-One 290 has a rated COP of 5.7, tested to AS/NZS 5125.1:2014 at 14°C inlet water, 19°C air and a 55°C set point. Which is the highest listed in the database at these test conditions.

In New Zealand where it is typically cooler 4.71 COP is more likely to be your average:

  • 4.71 at 9°C air and
  • 2.79 at 2°C air, both with 9°C inlet water.

At around 30c/kWh, a COP of 5.7 works out to roughly 5.3c per kWh of hot water, more than 80% cheaper than a standard electric cylinder.

The unit runs on 380 g of R290 (GWP 3), delivers 2.65 kW of heating and operates in air temperatures from -7°C to 43°C.

Features

  • Standard controls: a wired LCD panel with Automatic and Energy-saving modes, plus Wi-Fi app control for scheduling and monitoring.
  • Solar homes: Wi-Fi scheduling through the EcogenSmart app lets you heat water when your panels are producing.
  • Safety: A weekly Legionella cycle runs at 60°C at 2am, in line with AS 3498.

This base model has no backup element. If you want a safety net for peak demand or a cold snap, the ECON-300RVW-2.0E adds a 2 kW Rapid Boost element.
