Who is it a good fit for?
- Simple plug-in installation — 10A connection, no outdoor unit, straightforward retrofit for most homes.
- Solar PV homes wanting app control — Smart Life App PV scheduling makes it easy to time heating around solar generation.
- Smaller households (200L) — the 200L suits 1–3 people and takes up less space than larger AIO units.
- Medium households (300L) — the 300L (287L actual capacity) suits 3–5 people with a 54 L/hr recovery rate.
- Eco-conscious buyers on a budget — natural R290 refrigerant, Australian-made, at a lower price point than the CO₂ split range.
What owners say
“I had committed to making the switch when the old cylinder died, so I was prepared. I also wanted to not use a cylinder in my roof anymore so it cost extra for plumbing. The control panel has a blinking light and I have no idea why! It’s annoying. Other than that it’s awesome. Yes! Cheaper power bills, reliable plentiful hot water, total win.”
Review
The Reclaim Eco R290 is the brand’s all-in-one entry point — a plug-in integrated unit using natural R290 (propane) refrigerant, Australian-made, and part of their Energy Freedom range. The 200L model delivers a COP of 4.23 at 20°C; the 300L steps up to 4.63 — both solid performers in the integrated category. At 37 dB(A), it’s among the quietest AIO units available in NZ.
The Reclaim Smart Life App is a genuine differentiator: it offers Eco, Boost, and Holiday modes plus PV optimisation scheduling, giving solar households a convenient way to time heating around generation peaks. The 1200W backup element provides hot water assurance on cold, cloudy days. At 2 kW maximum input and a standard 10A plug-in connection, installation is simpler than most split systems.
The 6-year parts and labour warranty is below the CO₂ split range (10 years) but still competitive for an integrated unit. R290 has a GWP of 3 — not as low as CO₂ but still a natural refrigerant and far better than the synthetic alternatives.
Note: minimum and maximum operating temperatures are not published in the available brochure — verify with Consolidated Energy NZ before installation in extreme climate zones.
