Who is it a good fit for?

  • Homes with a good existing cylinder — add heat pump efficiency without full system replacement.
  • Those who want to avoid full system replacement disruption — retrofit installation is less invasive.
  • Rinnai loyalists — designed and manufactured in New Zealand by Rinnai.
  • Cold climate homes — −10°C operating range covers the coldest NZ locations.
  • Buyers who value NZ-made products — the only NZ-designed and assembled split system heat pump.

Review

Performance & efficiency:

The only NZ-designed and assembled heat pump on the market. Instead of replacing your entire hot water system, the HydraHeat Split adds a heat pump outdoor unit that connects to your existing cylinder or new cylinder. If your current tank is in good shape, you save the cost of a new one. The R290 refrigerant with just 150g charge minimises environmental impact.

Features:

  • The compact outdoor unit: (835×365×750mm) has a small footprint.
  • The 4 operating modes are straightforward: Eco 55 prioritises efficiency, Standard balances comfort and efficiency, Element Only bypasses the heat pump, and Shutdown turns everything off.
  • The premium price reflects NZ manufacturing: but you need to factor in the savings from not replacing your cylinder it adds up.

Supply and service:

Rinnai New Zealand is the Auckland-based arm of the Japanese Rinnai group and supplies through the mainstream plumbing merchant channel, so the Enviroflo GR and HydraHeat units are widely stocked and readily quoted by installers nationwide.

Its after-sales position is the strongest in this category: an authorised service centre network covering fourteen regions across both islands, searchable by product type, with online service booking and a requirement that installation, servicing and repair be carried out only by authorised personnel.
