Who is it a good fit for?
- Larger households (3-5 people) - that need a bigger 270-litre tank and steady hot water for back-to-back showers.
- Anyone who values strong after-sales cover — five years on the refrigeration components including labour is above some in the market.
- Most NZ climates (rated to −5°C)- where an all-in-one outdoor unit is straightforward to place, though the element will be needed for the coldest days.
- Buyers who like the reassurance of a nationwide trade-supply network -Reece NZ behind parts and servicing.

Performance & Efficiency
The Thermann 270L is a larger-tank, all-in-one hot water heat pump that Reece has just brought to the New Zealand market under its own Thermann brand.
With 270 litres of storage it's built for larger households — Reece rates it for homes of up to seven people — where the priority is plenty of hot water and a smaller power bill than a conventional electric cylinder. We would typically recommend a 300L+ cylinder for 5 or more people in a household, particularly if you are high water users or coming off instant gas hot water.
Reece quotes a coefficient of performance of 4.7 and running-cost savings of up to 73.1% against a standard electric cylinder. With the low GWP R290 refrigerant now standard in most NZ integrated units. Those are manufacturer figures, tested to AS/NZS 5125.1:2014 at a mild 19°C — a warmer air temperature than much of the country sees in winter, when a heat pump works hardest and this efficiency will be lower.
Features
The −5°C to 43°C operating range covers the vast majority of New Zealand conditions, and an electric backup element steps in on the coldest mornings.
The warranty is a genuine strength: five years on the cylinder and five years on the refrigeration components including labour — and because labour is usually where a heat-pump claim gets expensive.
It's outdoor-only, and at just over two metres tall, placement under eaves or on a deck needs checking. Several specs we'd normally publish — operating noise, first-hour hot water delivery, recovery rate and installed price — aren't stated on Reece's documentation yet, so we've left them pending rather than guess. As a new entrant with a strong warranty and a future-proof refrigerant, it's a promising option for larger households; we'll firm up our rating once the noise, output and independent efficiency numbers are confirmed.
Supply and Service Support
Thermann is a Reece product, designed and manufactured in Australia. Meaning it's backed by one of the country's largest plumbing-supply networks, so parts, service and trade support should be easy to come by.
